Each day we engage your child’s mind, body and creative energy. Children may join in a choreographed dance or theater production. Science, Creative Writing, Worldwide Culture or Arts & Crafts round out the summer days. One day each week, we’ll go on an outing, which may be as nearby as Cloverleaf Bowl or as far away as California Academy of Science in San Francisco.

Language Arts
Children will engage in language arts by reading heroic stories, learning about the “Hero’s Journey”, writing and acting out heroic stories of their own in little plays. Children will have fun with reader’s theater plays. They will conclude by performing with and for each other.

Fine Arts

“Back to Basics - Color Play”

This session will focus on some of the basic foundations of art, including the color wheel, complimentary colors, warm and cool colors, an introduction to color mixing, and monochromatic painting.

Exploring Language & Creative Writing
Children engage in writing stories, poetry, essays, and plays, as well as simply reading for pleasure. Through these activities children are able to discover the joy in writing, the intrigue of language, and the confidence of authorship.

Fine Arts

Drawing 101 and Collage Making

This session will explore various drawing styles including still life, perspective drawing, optical illusions, 3 Dimensions, collages, and mosaics. We will discuss shading, shadows, and tricking the eye by creating an optical illusion. We will also learn the basic concepts of perspective and how to make sense of the space on our papers.

Exploring Science
A daily combination of in-class discovery and exploration, outdoor games and physical activities, and hands-on applications of the scientific principles presented. Campers will be able touch, see, hear, smell and taste what science is really all about. We’ll use simple, real world science techniques that allow even the youngest of campers to enjoy our learning environment. Campers create, build and assemble a variety of take-home projects while exploring how science affects the world around us.

“Paint It Like...”

During this session we will focus on paint as the medium and talk about various famous artists such as Monet, Van Gogh, and Georgia O’Keeffe, along with their different styles of painting. We will dip into art history and learn about impressionism, pointillism, and modern art just to name a few topics.

Astronomy
The sky becomes a huge picture book at night when the stars are out. Warriors, animals and monsters appear in the changing night sky if one knows how to find these constellations made by groups of stars. By making charts and pictures of the constellations, children will learn how to recognize them and find them in the night sky of the season.

“Captivating Crafts”

During session 4 we will get to make origami, kirigami, pottery, and bracelet weaving. We will gain an appreciation for the patience required to carefully fold paper and turn it into something spectacular. We will also manipulate clay and learn a real way to make pottery - the coil method.
